XWO Young Composer Competition 2012

The Music Maker's Foundation announces the Xibus World Orchestra Young Composer Competition to encourage outstanding young composers around the world. The competition is open to any composers born after 1975. Here's how it works:

Compose a piece for the unique combination of two string quartets and orchestra with a duration of up to 15 minutes. Entries should exhibit influences from world music, jazz, pop, and/or rock idioms.

Send your completed composition, entry form, and audio sample to us via email, snail mail, or the electronic entry form by November 31, 2011. You can download the snail mail entry form here (.doc).

What you could win

Everyone who enters the competition will receive written feedback and critical advice from our panel of professional judges.

Submission Guidelines

All works must use a combination of two string quartets (or octet of 4 violins, 2 viola, and 2 cello) and orchestra.

Orchestral instrumentation may up to and including 3 each woodwinds, including doubles of piccolo, cor anglais, and bass clarinet, 3 each trumpets/trombones, tuba, 8 french horns, timpani and percussion, strings (20/18/16/12/8).

Optional additions may include male/female/full chorus, piano, harp, saxophones, drum set, electric bass, and/or world percussion.

All music must be UNPUBLISHED and have a duration  of 8-12 minutes.
