Workshops

To provide the best educational opportunities for each individual student body, we offer multiple options for classes:

~ Improvisation

Members of the Boston String Quartet will discuss improvisatory techniques. Vocalists as well as instruments are encouraged to participate. Students will learn about the major and minor pentatonic scale as the basis for improvisation. BSQ will interact with students through the use of call and response exercises. Individual students will be selected to improvise alongside the quartet.

~ Masterclass

Schools may select students to perform for members of the Boston String Quartet and guest soloists and receive verbal critique. Student soloists or groups may participate.

~ Sectionals

Individual instruments or groups of instruments from the orchestra or chorus will be work with members of the Boston String Quartet on orchestral repertoire. Items such as blending, dynamics, togetherness, and practice techniques will be discussed.

~ Open Roundtable Discussion

This is an exciting opportunity for students and teachers to ask the Boston String Quartet questions about their lives, career, music, and any other questions that arise.
